Truth

Steven Hawking was on one of those Science Channel programs to disprove his thirty-year theory about black holes. He once believed that black holes, swallowed up and absorbed information, hiding that information, forever, from the outside world. He was now out to prove that black holes actually keep emitting radiation and eventually open up and reveal the information hiding within. I find this to be fascinating and parallel to human life and experience. We are all essentially little universes. And while not every universe or person has a black hole, the ones that do . . . well . . . that information is not, after all, hidden away forever. In other words . . . the truth (as information) is always revealed because the TRUTH wants to be revealed. The black hole in one's soul that hides that truth emits clues (hence the radiation) and reveals itself. It is a beautiful thing: The TRUTH cannot be swallowed up and forgotten about. The TRUTH cannot be hidden away forever. The TRUTH is not revealed, the TRUTH reveals itself!

You make it sound as though the truth was something sentient. I think that truth is relativistic. What is it? Is it true that something is black and white? What one person sees as red, is it what another person sees as red? Light is frequency, what if one person receives that frequency and interprets it in a different way than someone else.

I don't know the answers. Just thinking out loud.

Stewart, I see your point. I am not referring to descriptions of truth or what truth means relative to individual interpretation. I am not referring to Universal Truths, as they are always available for us to discover when we are ready to seek them. I am speaking of "TRUTH" as a withheld knowledge becoming an open and shared knowledge - the exposure of a concealment. The truth gives back the power to all, equally, for power is knowledge. The truth gives back the freedom of choice, to all, equally, as a clear choice can only be made when all of the information is available to the choice maker. To withhold information is thievery. To conceal information is the ultimate act of arrogance. TRUTH reveals itself - when power and freedom have been stolen and an abuse and/or injustice has been committed. But sometimes, that truth becomes a forest to the trees of denial and goes unseen. On another note: Honesty is a form truth, but subject to interpretation, filtering and fallible communication methods.

I love reading physics and whatnot for ideas for poetry. Like you, I love the idea of black holes and stars that die. Beautiful and poetic!

Something to ponder, certainly. Triggered a memory of a religious tract left around college campuses called The Plain Truth, too. Then there's the book on writing called A Lie That Tells a Truth. Truth, or truthiness? Hard to tell the difference sometimes! As for people telling baldface lies and trying to pass them off as true, that's the worst.

Interesting concept. I like the comparison of the truth eventually being revealed to a black hole that continuously emits radiation until it reveals the info hiding within.

The Truth is the Truth, but it is a very small and super condensed kind of thing...Einstein and Hawking and all are doubtless right...there is that tiny fractal of Truth that is all and explains all. Another book says, "I am that I am."

I'll let you know when I get there.

It's true, black holes in people do eventually start radiating out their information. I hear the slow leak of secrets when they talk about certain things, and though nobody mentions it, I can see a mist of unsaid admisssions sketch out around them.
